Dominik Lejman - Painting as extallation

The Polish artist Dominik Lejman (b. 1969) works with acrylic paintings. Videos are projected onto the canvases, and a contrast between the dynamic and static appears.
Lejman describes his artworks as extallations. When looking at these works, we have to convert. Normally, looking at paintings is a static activity, but in front of Lejman’s works we are challenged to be more dynamic. In one of the works our position is projected onto the canvas, and thus we become a part of the artwork. But unlike installations, we are kept outside. Hence extallations.
