Mattias Harenstam18 February - 15 May

The upcoming exhibition at the Vigeland Museum will be the most comprehensive presentation of Mattias Härenstam's (b. 1971) artistic career to date, consisting of both new and older works. In his new works he is inspired by Gustav Vigeland in both material and theme. In this exhibition Härenstam makes his debut as a stone carver. Two new sculptures in wood are also exhibited.

Härenstam often treats the themes of loss, chaos and the uncontrollable factors of existence in his works. In this exhibition he also investigates notions of monumentality.

Härenstam is a graduate of Vestlandets Kunstakademi in Bergen, Norway (1992-1996) and Städelsschule, Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künst in Frankfurt am Main, Germany (1995). Härenstam has had numerous solo exhibitions both in Norway and abroad.

The exhibition is supported by the Municipality of Oslo, Agency for Cultural Affairs and Arts Council Norway.
